force close with Facebook 3.0 apk on emulator

I'm having all kinds of fun problems with the Facebook SDK 3 apk on the
Android emulator.
I have tried:
FBAndroid-2.1.apk (delivered with facebook-android-sdk-3.0.2?)
FBAndroid-3.5.apk
Both of them exhibit the same behavior, when my app tries to log in via
Facebook, I get the message "Application Facebook (in process
com.facebook.katana) is not responding" and the "Force close" and "Wait"
buttons.
In addition, when I installed previous SDK versions apks I'd be able to
click on the Facebook icon and get a screen where i had to enter my
Facebook credentials. With the apks listed above I also get the "not
responding" error message as above.
Finally, is it new with SDK 3.0 that the minimum Android version is 2.2 as
opposed to 2.1?
